Our Process

First step is to contact us for your custom cabinet needs. Some of the rooms that we frequently build cabinets for are the kitchen, bathroom, mudroom, library, TV cabinet/built- in's or mantle projects.

Once you contact us we will set up a time for you to visit our showroom to meet with one of our consultants. This is recommended so that you can see the quality of our cabinetry along with the color and style options that we have. Scandia offers hundreds of styles from traditional framed inset to contemporary full overlay as well as the unique opportunity to customize your door. We offer a number of standard woods such as cherry, mahogany, red birch, maple, white birch, alder, oak, pine and exotic woods like birdseye maple, curley maple, bubinga as well as bamboo, lyptus, and unlimited paint colors.

Our showroom has three full kitchens, four vignettes and two bathroom vanities.

During this first meeting we will ask you to bring plans of the space if you have them, inspiration photos and any appliance information that you have gathered. We will spend approximately one hour with you walking through our showroom and getting to know more about your project.

If you do not have plans, we still recommend that you visit our showroom first to see the quality of our cabinetry and to discuss your project. At that point, we will discuss coming out to your home for a consultation which will enable us to provide you with an estimate based on the color and style that you selected. There is no charge for this service; however we will not release the design until we have an agreement and deposit.

Experienced designers start with the needs and ideas of the customer and concentrate their efforts on careful planning and design in order to give the client a breathtaking, efficient and functional work area.

Once we prepare an estimate and floor plan we will meet at our showroom to review the details and show you the types of cabinets and accessories that we have included.

When the decision is made to work together we will ask you for a deposit to begin our CAD drawing phase. This drawing process usually takes 1-2 weeks depending on the size of the job and the amount of work in house. We are confident that our manufacture’s design software will quickly transform your dreams to reality when you see the 3D colored drawings.

At Scandia Kitchens, we take pride in our reputation and we feel that it is extremely important for everyone working on your project to be on the same page and have a very clear knowledge of what is taking place and when. We highly recommend that we meet your builder at your home to review the plans and discuss any questions that you may have regarding flooring, electrical, plumbing etc. With over thirty three years of experience, we have seen how this makes the project go very smooth and helps everyone to stay on schedule this in turn (take out ,) reduces the amount of downtime for you and your family. If you do not have a contractor, we would be happy to recommend of one in your area that we have worked with in the past.

Once the design is finalized and the color and styles have been selected, we will re-visit your home for a final measurement. Once the final measurement is taken, and contract has been signed we will begin constructing your cabinets.

The cabinets are constructed in the following way in our factory located in Bellingham, MA:

  1. Parts are cut using our state of the art CNC machine and grade A ¾” plywood
  2. Cabinets are assembled
  3. Cabinets then move into the sanding department to get prepared for the finish
  4. They move into the stain or paint booth where they finished by hand to create our famous Scandia Signature finish.
  5. From finish they move to the hardware department where all the Blum hinges, motion soft close slides and knobs are installed
  6. The final step is to carefully load them with blankets on to our Scandia truck and from there they are on their way to their new and final home.

The day after the cabinets are delivered to your home our installer will arrive to begin the installation of the cabinets. This is a very important part of the process because it is the finishing touch on all of our hard work from design to manufacturing. Our installers have been with us for 10+ years and treat each project as if it were their own home. The installer will install the base cabinets first so that the countertop person can template for the tops. Next, we will continue to install the wall cabinets, moldings etc. This process usually takes 3-5 days depending on the size of the project.

After the installation is complete we will set up a time to walk through the job with you to make sure that it is exactly as planned. We will also review with you how to take care of your cabinets.

You can feel at ease with your new Scandia cabinets because the slides and hinges are guaranteed for as long as you own the cabinets. Because we are a local company we can offer services to you for many years as long as it is our cabinets. These include service calls for adjustments, stripping and refinishing of doors and drawers, retro fits to make room for new appliances and making new panels to match existing fronts. Wood as you may know, can age and change color over time so when we are adding to or retro fitting existing cabinetry we make a color sample for you to approve before any work is done to make sure that the new work will look like it has been there all along.
